Workshops

Next course Lambing 25th March 2017

The course will be as hands on as possible and you will learn to recognise the signs and what to do. Of course we cannot guarantee that we will have any births but we have chosen the optimum time, and we will certainly have orphan lambs, and sheep and lambs in the maternity unit needing your care and attention. The course is suitable for everyone whether you have sheep and need to learn about lambing or just want to experience lambing time. The timetable can vary depending on the whims of the mums in the lambing shed!

SMALLHOLDER AND FARMING

Many people are buying houses with land which, though its romantic at the time, suddenly  leaves them with a problem. This land needs maintaining. You could just mow it but where’s the fun or benefit in that? There are many things you could do with just 4 acres and a lot more with 30.

Or you may be thinking of going into a small farming enterprsie and want to ‘try before you buy’ or you may just want a different experience – why not try farming for a day!

Our aim is to introduce you to different opportunities and show how to go about them. Our  expertise comes from the winning combination of an established farmer going organic (Trevor) and office bound beginners starting out in a new farming enterprise, who know what questions they had to ask and how they picked their way through the learning experience. (James and Jacky, keeping chickens, native sheep and cattle on a small acreage).

We believe in learning by doing so we try and keep the courses as hands on as possible. Everything is aimed at conservation and sustainability, which creates a biodivers species rich landscape.

For day workshops lunch is included. Discounts are available for couples.

You can stay in the eco cottage, or we can offer camping facilities or recommend a range of accommodation close by.

Workshops run throughout the year – if you want a date other than those shown please contact us.

Clun Valley Organics is a family run, mixed organic hill farm (known as Brynmawr) located in the beautiful South Shropshire hills, producing home grown quality traditional beef and lamb as well as fresh organic vegetables.

The Bales is a multifunctional classroom made of straw bales, recycled materials and a green roof. It was largely funded by Natural England to extend the facilities of the farm. The building looks out across the magnificent Shropshire hills and offers peace and tranquility. It is light and airy in summer and snug and warm in winter.
